Leggere, Steve McCurry – WE GIL, Roma

Image meets word in the exhibition Leggere by Steve McCurry, which opens in Rome on Dec. 7th. After Musei Santa Giulia in Brescia, the venue of the second stop of the exhibition about reading is WEGIL, the building in rationalist architecture, in the very heart of Trastevere.

Passion for reading

The 40 images by McCurry have been chosen by Biba Giacchetti among the ones published in On Reading, published in Italia by Mondadori as Leggere. In Rome, you will find an extract of the attention Steve McCurry used to photograph the passion for books. There are a lot of shots portraited during the intimate or lonely act of reading, bowed on their texts during the flood of the monsoon or in front of the rubble caused by war.

But book means also education: a lot of photos Steve McCurry took in schools, it does not matter if they were improvised or under the open sky. Teachers and pupils are equally concentrated on reading.
