Steve McCurry comes back in Sicily, with the exhibition Steve McCurry Icons. Our photographer arrives in Siracusa, after the great success of the show in Palermo.
The exhibition collects his 100 most important images to represent his 30 years long career. In his journeys, Steve McCurry has captured with his camera humanity in all his facets. His photos let us cross the most different countries in the world, the most distant people, yet all mantening a common element: the universality of human feelings, from India to Ethiopia, from Afghanistan to Brazil.
The voice of Steve McCurry for the Icons in Siracusa
At the entrance of the exhibition in Siracusa, you can rent the audioguide freely. The voice of Steve McCurry himself will told you about the secrets and the hidden meanings of the photos in the collection.
Do not miss the two videos, through which you can dip in his idea of photography. Lesson Learned is a video where Steve McCurry tells the way he works: the inspection of places, the wait, the instict. Finding the Afghan girl is producted together with National Geographic and follow Steve McCurry’s journey to find Sharbat Gula, seventeen years after his most famous shot.
At the bookshop of the museum, you will find also the catalog of the exhibition, Steve McCurry Icons: Conversation with Biba Giacchetti. In the book, published by Sudest57, you will find the most important 50 images of Steve McCurry, analyzed and revealed in a chat with the curator of the exhibition, Biba Giacchetti.
The ex Convento di San Francesco, the building which hold the Steve McCurry’s pictures, is right in the centre of Siracusa, in the area called Ortigia. It opened again after a long repairs to put up the exhibition.
The exhibition is curated by Biba Giacchetti, promoted by Civita Mostre in collaboration with Civita Sicilia and Sudest57, with the sponsorship of Siracusa municipality.
The exhibition is open from Jul. 1st until Nov. 5th 2017. Until Sept. 30th, it is open from 4.00pm to 11.00pm.
