The Steve McCurry‘s iconic photographs are now in Sansepolcro, the lovely village near Arezzo. In the Museo Civico, the 100 photos of Steve McCurry Icons show all the production of the 30 years long career of our photographer. Open from Jun. 28th, the exhibition will close on Nov. 5th 2017.
The black and white Afghanistan in Sansepolcro
The exhibition will welcome the visitor with a section of black and white photographs: the five images have been chosen among his first reportage from Afghanistan in 1979, to mark the beginning of his work as a photographer.
In the first room, you will find images from all over the world, about the most different human activities. Steve McCurry represents human being under his various forms, but with feelings and dispositions which are common to everyone.
You could take this journey with Steve McCurry’s voice to guide you: the audioguide will be freely available at the ticket office.
Do not miss the three videos in the exhibition. At the entrance, you can discover Steve McCurry’s rules about photography. Then, a brief tale about his first experience in Afghanistan, when he was the only photographer from the West to witness the war between Russia and Afghanistan. At the end of the exhibition, the documentary by Steve McCurry and National Geographic, Finding the Afghan girl, about the finding about 20 years later of the woman who had become at 12 the symbol of all refugees.
Conversation with Biba Giacchetti: behind the scene of the icons
At the bookshop, you will find also the catalog of the exhibition, Steve McCurry Icons: Conversations with Biba Giacchetti. In the book, published by Sudest57, you will find the most popular images of Steve McCurry, whose behind the scene is told in a chat with the curator of the exhibition, Biba Giacchetti.
