Overview
Tariq Zaidi dedicates a project to the Sapeurs, a famous anti colonialist movement born in Congo during the 1920s as an affirmation of dignity and style in response to Belgian and French customs.
Although at first they met with hostility, the Sapeurs have gained attention in recent years and now they embody a well known cultural heritage.
Their elegance aims to affirm tailoring as a lifestyle and goes with a gentlemanly conduct.
The irony and joy that characterize both the whole movement and the single stories of each protagonist find expression in Zaidi's images.
